Introduction: The complexity of the patients, the assistance they need, the need to adapt and optimize nursing resources, have determined the need to search for a tool with greater scientific relevance to assess the actual workload of nurses at the O.U. Intensive Care Unit of the S.S. Antonio e Biagio e Cesare Arrigo Hospital. Aim: To measure the nursing workload with tools valid in the literature to assess the number of nurses needed in relation to the real need - care of patients admitted to the O.U. Intensive Care Unit through evidence, scientific scales and objective data of work. Material Methods: Creation of an Observational Study of prospective cohort carried out over 12 months: ( May 1, 2013 - April 30, 2014) on the detection of workloads through the scale "NEMS".
